The United States has suspended the delivery of certain weapons to Ukraine that were pledged during President Joe Biden’s administration, as Russia intensifies its attacks on Ukrainian territory.
Among the arms promised under Biden’s leadership were various defense weapons meant to reinforce Ukraine’s resistance — but these are now under review as the Pentagon reassesses U.S. military stockpiles.
This decision may signal a shift in priorities under the new administration of President Donald Trump, according to a report from Al Jazeera.
On Tuesday, White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly stated:
“This decision was made in the interest of America first, following a review of our military assistance and support provided to other countries around the world.”
The internal review conducted by the U.S. Department of Defense revealed that some weapons stockpiles are critically low, making it impractical to continue urgent deliveries to Ukraine, according to an unnamed U.S. official cited by Politico, which first reported the suspended military aid.
Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell responded by saying:
“The U.S. military has never been as ready and capable as it is now.”
Politico and other U.S. media outlets reported that the halted weapons include:
Patriot air defense missiles
Long-range precision artillery
Hellfire missiles
