Transparency International has confirmed the passing of Ingabire Marie Immaculée, the head of its Rwanda chapter, who died on October 9, 2025, after a long illness.
Born in 1961, Ingabire was a respected advocate for human rights, gender equality, and anti-corruption. She studied Human Rights and Gender Studies at the University of Pretoria and Communication and Journalism at Université de Strasbourg in France.
Before joining Transparency International, she worked with several Rwandan institutions including ORINFOR, Pro Femmes Twese Hamwe, and IBUKA. She was among the founders of Transparency International Rwanda in 2004 and served as its Executive Director since 2015.
Her passing leaves behind a legacy of integrity, courage, and service to Rwanda and beyond. May her soul rest in peace.
