Ugandan security forces have shot and killed a second woman who was allegedly attempting to carry out a suicide bombing in Kampala, following a recent foiled attack in Munyonyo.
According to a statement published on platform X by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), the suspect was killed at the Kalerwe market, a densely populated area on the northern outskirts of Kampala. The UPDF confirmed that a “bomb squad” had been deployed to investigate and secure the area.
An image accompanying the statement shows the suspected suicide bomber lying on the ground next to a motorcycle and a black travel bag, believed to have contained explosives.
This incident comes just weeks after another attempted terrorist attack was thwarted in Munyonyo, where a suicide bomber wearing an explosive-laden jacket was intercepted by a UPDF counterterrorism unit as they approached the Munyonyo Basilica.
