Last weekend, the Intermediate Court of Gasabo delivered a verdict in the case of a housemaid accused of attempting to poison members of the household where she worked, by lacing their milk with poison. She was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
The crime occurred on May 7, 2025, in Bugesera District, Nyamata Sector, Maranyundo Cell. The young woman, who had worked in the household for three years, added a chemical used for cleaning cowsheds (RABTRAZ 12.5% EC) into the milk, with the intention that the family would drink it.
According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, which reported the incident, the woman confessed she wanted to poison the household members so she could steal from them while they were weakened.
The court found her guilty of attempted poisoning and handed down a 15-year prison sentence.
The court also reminded all involved that appeals can be filed within one month from the date the verdict is delivered.
