Iran Suspends IAEA Ties After US-Israel Airstrikes on Nuclear Sites

On Wednesday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian ordered a suspension of cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), following a new law passed by parliament.

The decision comes after US and Israeli airstrikes damaged key Iranian nuclear facilities—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan—and amid accusations that the IAEA’s leadership enabled these attacks.

Under the new legislation, IAEA inspectors will no longer be allowed into Iran unless the Supreme National Security Council gives approval.

Despite this move, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi confirmed that diplomacy remains open, although US-Iran talks are unlikely to resume soon.

The law reinforces Iran’s position on nuclear sovereignty, citing the IAEA’s alleged bias and failure to condemn the airstrikes—claims Tehran strongly denies.
