A 51-year-old woman has been arrested by Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) in Nyamasheke District after allegedly killing her 61-year-old husband on the night of May 9, 2025, after catching him in the act of adultery.
The incident took place in Rubona Village, Nyarusange Cell, Kirimbi Sector. Local authorities report that ongoing domestic disputes related to property and jealousy over infidelity are believed to be the main causes of this tragic event.
A witness stated that the man had asked his wife to join him in harvesting coffee, but she refused, accusing him of sharing the proceeds with his mistress. After failing to convince her, the man called another woman from Jarama Cell in Gihombo Sector to assist him with the harvest, promising to pay her.
Around 9:00 AM, the wife decided to follow them under the pretext of bringing food but in reality to confirm her suspicions. She found them allegedly engaged in sexual activity. She attempted to assault the woman, but she escaped. Then, using a hoe, she struck her husband.
After injuring him, the wife did not help but instead watched him suffer and bleed out. The man eventually managed to reach nearby residents who tried to save him by taking him to Karengera Health Center on a motorcycle. Unfortunately, he died shortly upon arrival.
The wife followed him to the health center, where she confessed to the crime and explained her motive. She was immediately taken into custody by police and RIB.
Kirimbi Sector Executive Secretary, Mr. Habimana Innocent, confirmed the incident and stated that some angry residents wanted to harm the woman, but local authorities intervened and ensured her protection until RIB arrived.
The body was transferred to Kibogora Hospital for examination, while the woman remains in custody at RIB Kanjongo Station.
