On May 10, 2025, Rwanda Governance Board (RGB) officially revoked the legal status of Grace Room Ministries, a faith-based organization registered as an interdenominational ministry, for violating laws governing the operations of religious-based entities.
In a statement released Saturday, RGB said Grace Room continuously held prayer activities that contradicted the mission and objectives under which it was registered. These actions were deemed inconsistent with the standards approved at the time of registration.
RGB reminded all faith-based organizations that once registered, they must strictly adhere to their approved missions and operational frameworks. Any deviation may result in consequences, including loss of legal status.
The statement emphasized:
“Ignoring these obligations can lead to sanctions, including the withdrawal of legal status, when necessary.”
RGB urged all churches and faith-based organizations to remain compliant with the country’s laws, regulations, and principles governing religious institutions. It also warned that monitoring efforts will be intensified to prevent any practices that may breach public interest or legal provisions.
Grace Room Ministries, founded and led by Pastor Julienne Kabanda since 2018, is the latest organization to face legal action for non-compliance.
