Russia Strikes Kyiv with Drones and Missiles as Trump-Putin Talks Fail

The Russian military launched drone and missile attacks on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, during the night leading into July 4, 2025, targeting multiple locations, including residential areas.

According to Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, eight people were injured in the hours-long assault, which damaged high-rise buildings in two neighborhoods of the city.

These attacks came just hours after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that his phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin had yielded no progress on halting the war.

Trump said:

“We had a long conversation. We discussed many things, including the war in Ukraine, but nothing came out of it.”

Meanwhile, Russian offensives have continued to intensify. In June alone, Ukraine reports being hit with over 330 missiles and more than 5,000 drones.

Currently, the Trump administration has decided to suspend part of its arms deliveries to Ukraine — including air defense missiles — citing the need to conserve America’s weapons stockpiles.

Although Trump did not publicly confront Putin, Russian state media (TASS) reported that Trump expressed his desire to see the war end soon. However, Putin reportedly told him that Russia was “not backing down” from its war objectives.
