Rwanda Launches 15th “Indangamirwa” Cultural Camp to Ignite Patriotism

On Wednesday, Minister of Unity and National Cohesion, Dr. Damascene Bizimana, officially inaugurated the 15th Indangamirwa Cultural Camp, presenting to participants the core values that defined pre-colonial Rwanda, values that today’s youth should learn and protect—including love of country, unity, integrity, work ethic, and more.

Dr. Bizimana delivered a lecture on the destruction of unity in Rwanda and the ethnic politics imposed by Belgian colonists and Catholic missionaries, which was further exploited by successive First and Second Republic leaders, ultimately leading to the Genocide against the Tutsi.

He encouraged participants to learn Rwanda’s history so they can counter those who distort, deny, or downplay the Genocide, asserting that this knowledge is vital for building a strong nation free from division and genocide ideology—united and resilient.

Participants will spend 45 days at Nkumba Training Centre in Burera District, receiving education aimed at instilling Rwandan cultural values, moral resilience, national service, agricultural initiative, historical awareness, civic engagement, and protection of national achievements.

The camp brings together Rwandan youth studying or living abroad, high school graduates from international schools in Rwanda, honourees of the #Inkomezabigwi12 Leadership Award, and youth leaders.
