A young waiter died two days after being severely beaten by two police officers and a judge. The tragedy occurred on July 16 in Tangara Commune, Butanyerera Province, northern Burundi. The three government employees were arrested and detained in Ngozi.
Multiple eyewitnesses say the incident happened in a local restaurant where Donatien Nduwimana worked as a waiter.
The judge from the Tangara Primary Court, allegedly unhappy with the service he received and the condition of the plate he was served on, reportedly began to brutally assault the young man.
He then called two police officers, who instead of intervening to stop the violence, joined in beating the restaurant worker.
Donatien Nduwimana was taken to Ngozi Hospital and died on July 18 from his injuries, according to SOS Medias Burundi.
The prosecution ordered the arrest of the three suspects. They are being held at Ngozi prison and are currently under investigation.
