The Secretary General of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF), Louise Mushikiwabo, will hold a meeting with delegates from member countries to decide whether or not to maintain the Games of La Francophonie scheduled for July 28 to August 6. It will mainly be a question of postponing them again or canceling them .
48 hours before this decisive meeting scheduled at the headquarters of the OIF in Paris, the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo changed the accommodation site for the athletes of the IX Games of La Francophonie from the campus of the University of Kinshasa to the Tata Raphael stadium.
It was the Deputy Prime Minister, and Congolese Minister of Foreign Affairs who announced it during a meeting of the National Steering Committee of the Games of La Francophonie which he chaired last night in his cabinet, inform INFOS .CD of the sources of this ministerial portfolio.
This decision follows the visit that the Head of State Félix Tshisekedi made last week to the sites of the Martyrs and Tata Raphaà«l stadiums. In this last site, are erected the prefabricated houses initially envisaged, in the planning of the holding of these games, for the accommodation of the athletes.
Its main advantage is its proximity to the sites of sports and cultural competitions. This should facilitate the mobility of athletes, unlike the accommodation site at Unikin, which requires the Congolese authorities to provide dedicated routes for the transport of athletes and artists from the university campus to the competition sites, namely, among others, the Martyrs and Tata Raphaà«l stadiums as well as the Kinshasa International Fair.
However, the development work on this site has not yet been completed less than 40 days before the launch of the said games scheduled for July 28. In addition, the DRC should persuade the OIF and the member states of the compliance of this site with the standards of this institution. This requires visits by OIF experts to certify its quality and a monitoring plan.
