TikTok Star Tsulange Jailed for a Year in Nigeria over Public Bath in Women’s Underwear

A popular social media influencer, especially on TikTok, named Umar Hashim—widely known as Tsulange—has been sentenced by a court in Kano State, northern Nigeria, to one year in prison for bathing in the street while wearing women’s underwear.

The Gyadi-Gyadi Magistrate Court, presided over by Hadiza Muhammad Hassan, found him guilty of indecent public conduct.

Tsulange had been filmed performing a “comedy skit” in which he appeared bathing in the middle of the road, an act considered offensive to the Islamic values upheld in that region.

Hashim was sentenced to one year in jail, but was given the option to pay a fine of 80,000 Naira (over 100,000 Rwandan Francs).

He was also ordered to pay an additional 20,000 Naira to cover the costs of the investigation conducted by the Kano State Censorship Board, which had filed the case against him in June 2025.
