On Thursday, July 3, forward Diogo Jota, formerly of Liverpool in England and the Portugal national team, died in a car accident.
The crash also claimed the life of his younger brother, Andre Félipe, who was also a footballer, near Zamora in Spain.
Spanish media report that both brothers died on the spot.
Jota, aged 28, had passed away just two weeks after marrying his partner Rute Cardoso, whom he had been with since 2012.
He began his professional career in Portugal before moving to Atlético Madrid in Spain. From there he transferred to Wolverhampton Wanderers in England, and in 2020 joined Liverpool.
During his five years at the Merseyside club, he helped the team secure several trophies, including the Premier League title last season.
